Valuation for Council Tax purposes is not carried out by the Council, but by
the Listing Officer, Valuation Office Agency, which is part of the Inland
Revenue. He has placed each dwelling in one of eight bands, based on its
open market value at 1 April 1991.
Your Council Tax bill states which band applies to your dwelling.
Council Tax valuations will always be based on the price that your home
might have fetched if it had been sold on 1 April 1991, and not its present
value. Any changes in house prices since this date will not affect your
band.
